I used to think the chunky old Sony Walkmans were the pinnacle of portable entertainment technology and that nothing could ever better it. What an idiot I was (I was only about nine years old at the time, in my defence), because these days you can enjoy high quality audio, video and photos wherever you go, using just a phone.
Mobile Media Center provides a bridge between your PC and your mobile phone, for songs, pictures and videos, allowing you to exchange these files through the Internet.
After registering online to use the service (which is free), you can install the program and open it to browse the disk directories on your computer that contain your media.
The data connection between your PC and phone is made via your Web browser, though the service currently only supports Firefox and IE. Prior to transmission over the Net, the software will automatically compress the media files for faster transfer times.
However, these times can still be pretty slow, depending on your connection, making it quite costly if you don't have flat rate Internet access as part of your phone package.
Another point for the program must be knocked off because of its limited format support. For instance, it only recognises MP3, AAC and MP3 music, and to access videos they'll need to be encoded in H263 format.
The idea behind Mobile Media Center is a good one, though at present the application isn't polished enough as alternative to synching your mobile with your PC in the traditional way to transfer media files.
